Description
Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), also known as monkey fever, is currently causing concern in Karnataka. Caused by the Kyasanur Forest disease virus from the Flaviviridae family, KFD is transmitted mainly through tick bites or contact with infected animals, notably monkeys. There's no person-to-person transmission evidence. Prevention includes vaccination in endemic areas, using insect repellents, and wearing protective clothing in tick-infested areas. No specific treatment exists for KFD, with management focusing on early hospitalization and supportive therapy.
